Ahoy mates! Ready yer’ sails and let’s cruise the seven seas. Pirates of the Caribbean: Isles of War is an RTS building game. Experience the thrill of being a pirate and find out what Captain Jack Sparrow is planning out next.
The story is set before the Curse of the Black Pearl movie, where you meet Jack. After some persuading talks he then convinced you to lend him a hand on some pirates that are after him. But as we all know Jack Sparrow, eventually, he changed his mind and cowered out of the fight, typical Jack. At this time you get to learn the basics of combat and its controls. After that, since you’ve got such a trusting personality, he then managed to trick you again by stealing yer’ ship while you’re out securing supplies in a nearby island. Vowing to take revenge, you offered your services to the island’s inhabitants in order to secure a good ship, maybe a fleet so as to track down Jack and make him regret messing with you.

Graphics: Average
Good but could have been better. I don’t know why developers these days still cling to the old-fashioned Age of Empires look on their RTS games. In my opinion, why not try something more challenging by trying something new, maybe changing the art would do the trick, or how about different camera angles? Anything as long as it gives a fresh new approach to what we gamers are used to.
Sound: Good
I like the sound theme that this game provides. Familiar Pirate of the Caribbean background songs playing while booms and crashing sounds for effects, and even add a little ambient sea and chirping sounds gives the game a good overall vibe. Best played with speakers turned high or with headphones. No spoken dialogues though, would have been better if you could hear Jack Sparrow’s witty and hilarious remarks.
Gameplay: Good
Nothing special in particular. Familiar RTS building game, where you improve your village or in this case island, in order to build stronger, more powerful fleet of battleships. Fighting enemy pirate ships, pillaging neighboring isles, or just focusing on strengthening your defenses, is all entirely up to you. As long as you don’t piss enough enemies that might endanger you own island. One thing to mention though is that I would have loved if you could change the formation of the ships to suit different enemies and acquire more tactics. The games mechanics are not that difficult and it doesn’t have a deep system. Pretty easy actually if you’re an avid RTS gamer and doesn’t require much planning.
Cons: Overused graphics quality in many RTS games. Nothing special about it.
